Penn State Wrestling: Star Unable to Continue at National Championships

Only the great Gable Steveson is ahead of Penn State wrestling star Greg Kerkvliet in the heavyweight rankings
Senior Greg Kerkvliet won with a 12-2 major over Iowa's Ben Keuter.

PHILADELPHIA– A Penn State wrestling star is unable to continue at the 2025 NCAA Championships due to injury.

The program announced late Saturday morning that Greg Kerkvliet, a five-time All-American in his last season of college eligibility, has to medically forfeit from the consolation bracket and thus will finish in sixth.

This will also mark the end of Kerkvliet’s college wrestling career.

Kerkvliet came into his final tournament as the defending national champ and No. 3 seed. He rolled through his first three matches before falling to No. 2 Wyatt Hendrickson (Oklahoma State) in the semifinals 8-2.

With that loss and the medical forfeit, Kerkvliet will end his tournament 3-2. His overall record was 92-13.
