Penn State wrestling true freshman Luke Lilledahl started his Big Ten Championships career in just about the best way possibl: By getting a pin.

Lilledahl, seeded fourth, took on Illinois’ Caelan Riley, seeded 13th.

The match wasn’t expected to be a contest, and indeed, it was not.

Lilledahl got up 6-1 early, and with about a minute left in the second period, finished the job by pinning Riley. This continued what’s been a successful true freshman season for the No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2024. Lilledahl is now 16-2 on the season. His next opponent will be Iowa’s Joey Cruz, who he tech falled when Penn State and Iowa met at the Bryce Jordan Center Jan. 30. Will history repeat itself?
