Mitchell Mesenbrink made it 2 for 2 for champions this evening after an 8-2 victory over Iowa’s Mikey Caliendo on Saturday night.

Mesenbrink gave credit to coach Cael Sanderson, his high school coach and father John Mesenbrink, and former Missouri great Ben Askren on getting him to this point. Mesenbrink trained at the Askren Wrestling Academy.

“Like Nick Lee said after his first championship, it’s chop wood, carry water,” Mitchell told ESPN. “That’s what it’s going to be about. Just keep on getting better.

Penn State now has 177 points in its record-breaking performance for the weekend with Josh Barr still to wrestle tonight.
