Penn State Wrestling: Tyler Kasak Knocked off in 1st Round of Nationals

A season where Tyler Kasak wasn’t the original starter has turned out to be a pretty good year for him, but his road at the NCAA Championships got off to a bumpy start on Thursday afternoon.

Kasak, a No. 7 seed was upset in the first round, dropping a 4-2 decision to Stanford’s No. 26 Jaden Abas and dropped into the consolation bracket at 149 pounds. An All-American status is still possible, but he would have to win at least his next four matches.

PSU 133-pounder Aaron Nagao also dropped a match in the first round, and will also be on the same road as Kasak through the consolation bracket.

Kasak will wrestle Minnesota’s Drew Roberts in the first round of consolations on Thursday evening. Roberts, a 23-seed, fell to Cal Poly’s Chance Lamer, 7-2, in the first round.
