Penn State Wrestling Shuts out Michigan State 35-0

Penn State wrestling picked up its second shutout of the season on Sunday afternoon, taking care of Michigan State on the road, 35-0.

They also did it without heavyweight Greg Kerkvliet, 174-pounder Carter Starocci, and 149-pounder Tyler Kasak.

The Nittany Lions earned two technical falls, one major decision, and seven decisions for the day.

Aaron Nagao shook off being pinned in overtime on Friday night by coming back with one of the technical falls – an 18-3 victory in just 3:21 over the Spartans’ Andy Hampton at 133 pounds. Aaron Brooks got the other technical fall – a 21-6 win in four minutes over Kael Wisler at 197 pounds.

Mitchell Mesenbrink had the lone major decision, knocking off 10th-ranked Caleb Fish, 18-9, at 165.

Braeden Davis (125), Beau Bartlett (141), David Evans (149), Levi Haines (157), Terrell Barraclough (174), Bernie Truax (184), and Lucas Cochran all got decisions. Haines’ decision came in the second tiebreaker.

Penn State, which is now 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Big Ten, visits Maryland next Sunday. The dual meet is set for noon and will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
