Penn State football needs receivers in the transfer portal.
It looks like Penn State’s well on its way to doing that, with former five-star recruit and PA product Julian Fleming being projected to commit to Penn State after entering the portal from Ohio State.
Penn State also hosted transfer portal target Colbie Young (Miami) for an official visit over the weekend and did the same for North Carolina’s Andre Greene Jr. the weekend prior, so it’s safe to same WR coach Marques Hagans, HC James Franklin and co are putting in work.
Well, another WR entered the portal Tuesday evening and instantly became the No. 1 receiver and No. 2 overall player in the portal per 247Sports. It’s Texas A&M’s Evan Stewart. Pete Nakos of On3Sports reported that the 6-foot, 175-pounder is in the portal after two seasons at Texas A&M in which he didn’t put up eye-popping numbers, but wasn’t a slouch, either.

As a true freshman, he caught 53 passes for 649 yards and two touchdowns, and this past season, he caught 38 for 518 and four scores. For reference, Penn State’s top 2023 receiver, KeAndre Lambert-Smith, caught 53 passes for 673 yards and four scores.
Lambert-Smith was the only Penn State receiver who went for more than 246 yards. Three of Penn State’s top five receiving leaders were either tight ends or running backs.
Before coming to A&M, Stewart was one of the top recruits in the ‘22 Class. 247 had him as the top receiver in the country. Penn State offered the Liberty High School (Texas) star May 19, 2020. He had initially been committed to Texas, but ended up at A&M.
Wherever Stewart ends up, he’ll have two seasons of eligibility left.
