On Wednesday, former Penn State forward Even Mahaffey committed to Big Ten rival Ohio State from the transfer portal with three years remaining of eligibility.
First, I would like to thank God for this opportunity. Second, I want to thank Penn State and the amazing people that made my freshman year great! With that being said, I have decided to further my academic and athletic career at The Ohio State University! #BuckeyeNation ‼️ pic.twitter.com/gVtlJBZ9Bs

Mahaffey chose to return to his home state and play for the Buckeyes over reuniting with Micah Shrewsberry at Notre Dame and other programs, including Penn State.
Mahaffey played prep basketball at Archbishop Moeller in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2022. He finished as the No. 6 player in Ohio, the No. 42 small forward nationally and the No. 187 overall player, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
Mahaffey averaged 2.8 points and 1.7 rebounds in 9.4 minutes per game this past season in his only season at Penn State. Mahaffey had his best game of the season Jan. 11 at home against Indiana, scoring 12 points off 4-for-4 shooting from the field.
Mahaffey committed to Ohio State one day after Lafayette transfer Leo O’Boyle committed to Penn State, and on the same day Logan Imes, a three-star former signee, committed to Notre Dame.
The 6-foot-7 O’Boyle averaged 11.6 points per game for Lafayette this past season and shot 40.7% from 3.
A Scranton native, O’Boyle played four seasons at Lafayette, never averaging double figures until this past campaign. He’ll be a graduate transfer using his last year of eligibility to play at Penn State.
At Scranton Prep, O’Boyle helped his team to three district championships and also quarterbacked the football team to a pair of district titles. He was an all-state performer in both basketball and football and could be a popular player amongst Penn State fans because of his local roots.
PSU center Kebba Njie is still in the transfer portal, but there is a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction that he will reunite with Shrewsberry at Notre Dame.
