After Penn State football beat Utah in Monday’s Rose Bowl, PSU OL Bryce Effner yelled three words to LB Dom DeLuca as the two celebrated: “You’re on scholarship!”
The next day, word for our that DeLuca was, indeed, on scholarship.
Now, the video of the moment where coach James Franklin told DeLuca and Penn State’s team the good news is out. DeLuca, a product of Wyoming Area High School in West Pittson, Pennsylvania, just wrapped up his second season at Penn State.
He redshirted his first year and was one of three Penn State players to win Developmental Squad Player of the Year, along with Jaden Seider and Jordan van den Berg.
This season, DeLuca’s role increased. He played in 12 of Penn State’s 13 games, seeing time at linebacker and on special teams. He ended the year with 27 tackles (17 solo), two tackles for loss, a sack and a pass breakup. Again, DeLuca earned a postseason award. He and running back Tank Smith were the team’s “outstanding run-ons.”
Franklin made the announcement emphatically, stating: “Dom’s on f——— scholarship.” Naturally, a celebration followed.
