2025 QB Luke Nickel Weighing His Options After Penn State Offer

Penn State offers Georgia QB Luke NIckel

Although he’s just a high school sophomore, Luke Nickel has some experience and knows how the business of college recruiting works.

One year ago, Luke’s older brother Jack was a Power Five recruit and eventually signed and was a member of Michigan State’s Class of 2022. Jack Nickel was a 3-star tight end and selected Michigan State over other offers from California, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Florida State, Iowa, Louisville, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Northwestern, NC State, Oregon, Purdue, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Jack Nickel was a heavily recruited player and it looks like Luke is on a similar path.

Luke is a 2025 pro style quarterback from Milton, Georgia and earlier this week added an offer from Penn State. Prior to the news from the Nittany Lions, Nickel (6’2″, 195-pounds) held offers from Cincinnati, East Carolina, Florida State, Indiana, Michigan State and Ole Miss.

“It’s an exciting moment when you get any offer because it’s another opportunity for me to have my dream come true,” said Nickel. “Although that’s exciting, I’m trying not to look too far ahead and just want to continue working hard to get better and to remain humble.”

“I talked with and got the Penn State offer from Coach Yurcich. His message to me basically was that he’s very straight forward and very transparent. He got straight to the point and told me that he’s watched my film, really liked it and thinks that I fit his offensive scheme very well. As far as what I know about Penn State, I went up to Penn State to visit with my brother when he was getting recruited there. The atmosphere of the stadium was insane, I liked the campus a lot and Penn State has really good academics.”

Nickel, who’s ranked as one of the Top 20 quarterbacks in the Class of 2025, is already a 2-time B2C Georgia Player of the Year. NSN asked him to give us a description of his game and some of his strengths.

“I’d say that some of my strengths are definitely my toughness,” said Nickel. “Also, my accuracy, my leadership skills and my ability to move in and around the pocket.”

Nickel made a recent visit to Florida State and tells NSN that as of right now, he doesn’t have any other campus visits set up. He did say that he’s looking forward to getting up to Penn State for either spring practice or for a game.

“Right now, I’m just taking all of this in. Over the next year, I want to try and see where I feel that I could potentially fit in well. I plan on taking my recruitment slow and whenever it feels right, that’s when I will probably make a decision. Right now, I just want to look at all of my options and move forward from there.”
