Former Louisiana center Theo Akwuba entered the transfer portal earlier this month. Now, he’s named his top five schools, and Penn State is on the list. He also has Iowa, NC State, Ole Miss and South Carolina on his list.
Louisiana transfer Theo Akwuba’s top five schools are the following, per source:
Iowa
NC State
Ole Miss
Penn St
South Carolina— Sean Paul (@SeanPaulCBB) April 28, 2022
Akwuba is a 6-foot-10, 225-pound center from Brewbaker Tech Magnet School in Montgomery, Alabama, who started his college career at the University of Portland, where he played sparingly in two years before transferring to Louisiana after the 2019-20 season.
In his junior season, Akwuba averaged 11.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game which were good for second in the Sun Belt Conference. Last season his numbers dipped a little to 9.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and two blocks per game while shooting 55% from the field. The Ragin’ Cajuns reached the 2022 Sun Belt Championship game.
Akwuba is one of the best post defenders and shot blockers in the transfer portal, and he has an efficient low-post offensive game. He’s also capable of running the floor, and he will be a good choice to replace the departing John Harrar.
The Nittany Lions have already added former Bucknell guard Andrew Funk and former Drexel guard Cam Wynter from the transfer portal this cycle and Akwuba would give coach Micah Shrewsberry an effective big man to help shape his 2022-2023 roster.
