Three-star offensive tackle Diego Pounds from Raleigh, N.C., announced this afternoon that he’ll be playing his college ball at North Carolina.
Penn State had been considered the favorite to land Pounds (6-6, 305). But the tides began to shift in the past 24 hours as several recruiting analysts switched their crystal ball picks from PSU to North Carolina.
Pounds never made a visit to Penn State because of the coronavirus pandemic and NCAA recruiting dead period. Still, he was expected to choose the Lions.
North Carolina came in with a late offer Aug. 4, and the opportunity to stay in state was too good for Pounds to pass up.
Thus, Penn State’s class of 2021 remains at 13 commits. The Lions perhaps could have built some momentum with a Pounds commit, but that will have to wait until another big-name recruit decides to pick PSU.
