UNIVERSITY PARK– Penn State fans knew Saturday’s hockey game at Beaver Stadium would be the highest attended men’s hockey game in school history.
It had to be, because, well, it was the first time Penn State men’s hockey had ever played at Beaver Stadium.
But fans didn’t know exactly what the paid attendance would be.
They got their answer early in the third period: 74,575.
Not bad for a game with sub-20-degree temperatures.
The fans who came for this historic occasion got their money’s worth, with No. 5 Penn State and No. 2 Michigan State engaging in a back-and-forth battle worthy of both a top-five matchup and of such a historic occasion.
We’ll see what the future brings for outdoor hockey in Happy Valley.
