University Park– Penn State fans have been unhappy for weeks, and Saturday’s loss to Northwestern might have been the worst of it.

As the final seconds ticked on Northwestern’s 22-21 win– and Penn State’s third straight loss– fans chanted “Fire Franklin”.

Those chants turned into boos, and those boos followed the 12th-year coach into the tunnel, where the Penn State student section awaited.

It’s easy to see where the fans’ anger comes from. This season started with so much promise for Penn State– a No. 2 ranking coming off a College Football Playoff semifinal apparence– and has quickly turned into a nightmare.

With three lossess, it’s safe to say that Penn State is already out of the College Football Playoff hunt, and we aren’t even halfway through October.

The next game is at Iowa Oct. 18. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 on CBS.
