Sophomore forward JJ Wiebusch was named the Big Ten Hockey First Star of the Week following a five-goal, six-point outburst in a series split against Clarkson as announced by the Big Ten.
This is Wiebusch’s first career weekly accolade and the second-straight Big Ten First Star of the Week for the Nittany Lions to open the season after linemate forward Charlie Cerrato was honored last week.
Wiebusch topped all skaters nationally with five goals and six points over the weekend.
In the series opener against Clarkson, Wiebusch made history as he became the first Nittany Lion all-time to score four goals in a game during a 6-4 loss on Thursday.
On Friday night, Wiebusch netted a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win to earn a series split.
Wiebusch currently leads the nation with six goals on the year and has a three game goal scoring streak as well as netting a point in all four games this season.
His 10 points are good for second nationally behind Cerrato’s 11.
Wiebusch now has 15 goals in his last 13 games dating back to last season including a hat-trick and a four-goal game.
