Decision Day: Will Penn State Land It’s 1st ‘26 Tight End?

Penn State doesn’t yet have a tight end committed to its 2026 recruiting class but that could change today.

Four-star Pierce Petersohn is deciding between PSU and Minnesota.

Petershon, a standout at Triton High School in Dodge Center, Minnesota, will either stay in state or go to a school that has developed a reputation for quality tight end play.

Mackey Award winner Tyler Warren’s historic 2024 season is still fresh on the minds of Penn State fans. But Penn State’s success at the position goes beyond Warren. Just in the 2020s, Brenton Strange and Theo Johnson have both gone on to the NFL. Earlier in the James Franklin era, Mike Gesicki and Pat Freiermuth did the same.

RECENCY BIAS

Petershon went on his official visit to Penn State this past weekend and went on his Minnesota OV toward the end of May. Will this give Penn State an advantage? Perhaps.

Another advantage PSU could have is that Petershon plays quarterback for his high school team.

This might seem insignificant but a man named Tyler Warren also played quarterback in high school.

Petershon’s 6-foot-5, 200-pound frame makes it make sense for him to play tight end at the next level, and like Warren, he also has experience running the ball, going for more than 382 yards and nine touchdowns last season.

PENN STATE COULD USE SOME GOOD NEWS

It’s been a summer of discontent for PSU on the recruiting front.

Last Wednesday, in-state OL Grayson McKeogh (LaSalle College High School) announced his commitment to Notre Dame.

The next day, blue-chip DE Luke Wafle announced that he picked USC.

Earlier Friday, four-star DB Khary Adams. who had visited PSU six times, announced his commitment to Notre Dame. Later Friday, the top player in Pennsylvania, five-star safety Joey O’Brien, picked Notre Dame over Penn State.

So, yeah, Penn State could use some good news.
