Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson sent out one of his reserves to compete at 133 against Michigan, and the reserve got his first college dual meet win.
Kyison Garcia, a redshirt freshman, came into Friday night 6-3 on his career, with all bouts being in tournaments last season.
With starter Braeden Davis out, Garcia got the call to compete in a dual meet and he answered it.
Garcia got an escape and a takedown to go ahead 4-0 and ended up getting a 4-1 win over Michiganโs Nolan Wertanen. Weartanen has been filing in for Dylan Ragusion, who is out for the season with a knee injury.
Itโs a huge moment for Garcia, who made a big contribution on a big night for Penn State wrestling.
