‘Oregon, Easy’: GameDay Crew Picks Penn State-Oregon

Penn State HC James Franklin says he wishes he handled questions regarding two dismissed players better.
MADISON, WI - OCTOBER 26: Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin watches a replay on the screen durning a college football game between the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Wisconsin Badgers on October 26th, 2024 at Barry Alvarez field inside Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, WI. The picks are in for Penn State-Oregon in tonight’s Big Ten Championship Game.

Oregon is the favorite, as one would imagine considering it is the No. 1-ranked team in the country.

But Penn State is pretty good, too, hence its No. 3 ranking.

So what will happen? Will Oregon keep its perfect run going and assure itself a first-round College Football Playoff bye? Will Penn State pull an upset and likely make itself the No. 1 team in the land? Will James Franklin be able to match Dan Lanning’s aggressiveness? Will the moment once again be too big for the man known by some as “Big Game James,” a sarcastic nickname inspired by Penn State’s failures against top-ranked opponents?

Here’s what the College GameDay crew thinks.

DESMOND HOWARD

Oregon. Easy.

Pick: Oregon

NICK SABAN

I’m picking Oregon. One of the misconceptions of Oregon’s teams is they’re not physical enough. Everybody sees them as a speed team but I really like what Dan Lanning has done to match the physicality of Penn State.

Des, I don’t love what you just did at all. I don’t like the “easy” comment. It’s going to be a battle in Indianapolis, Indiana. I’m going to take the Ducks. They’re the No. 1 team in the country and (will be) Big Ten champs in their first year.

Pick: Oregon

GUEST PICKER TIMOTHY CHALAMET

I want to go 6-0. I’m going Oregon. No. 1 team in the country for a reason. Not as sharp as (it was in) 2023 at times but they’re still pretty strong this year.

Pick: Oregon

KIRK HERBSTREIT

”Oregon wins. But it’s not going to be easy.”

That’s what they think. What do you think. Will Penn State upset Oregon?
