Penn State didn’t play anybody this week, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that James Franklin’s team didn’t move up or down in the AP or Coaches Polls, staying at No. 10 in both.

After winning its first five games— two in Big Ten play— Penn State, which wasn’t ranked coming into this season, made its way into the top 10, slotting into the final spot.
The team is still No. 10 in both polls after its bye week, and is one of four Big Ten teams ranked in the AP Poll and three Big Ten teams ranked in the Coaches Poll.
Ohio State moved up from No. 3 to No. 2 in the AP and is now behind only Georgia— who retook the No. 1 spot from SEC foe Alabama. ‘Bama is now No. 3.
Alabama is still No. 1 in the coaches poll and Georgia is No. 2. Ohio State is still No. 3 in those rankings. Ohio State plays Penn State in Beaver Stadium Oct. 29.
Penn State’s upcoming opponent, Michigan, is No. 4 in the coaches poll and moved down a spot to No. 5 in the AP. Penn State has Michigan for a noon kick in “The Big House” this coming Saturday.
No. 24 Illinois made its 2022 AP Top 25 debut after a classic 9-6 win over Iowa this past Saturday. The Illini are still unranked in the coaches poll but received 77 votes.
Penn State’s rankings could skyrocket depending on what happens over the next few weeks. Penn State has Michigan and Ohio State, with the annual White Out game, against Minnesota, sandwiched in-between
