Penn State football legend Kerry Collins was a 6′-5,” 240-pound quarterback with a big arm.

Sound familiar?

Drew Allar is a 6′-5,” 235-pound former Penn State quarterback with a big arm, and he’s is still writing his football story.

Allar and Collins physically mirror one another, but they also have other football traits in common.

Both QBs are not known for their elite speed, but to stay in the pocket with poise and deliver an accurate pass.

Both are also capable of using their legs when necessary by scrambling out of the pocket or heading downfield for a first down.

Collins and Allar met for the first time the night before Penn State took on Ole Miss in the 2023 Peach Bowl.

The 2018 College Football Hall of Famer spoke highly of Allar and hadn’t encountered a prototypical Penn State passer who reminded him of when he played until Allar arrived.

“He’s physically imposing,” Collins told ESPN in 2024. “He’s got an NFL body and skill set. There are other guys that have had tremendous success. But I wouldn’t necessarily say what they had translated into what is needed in the NFL…Drew has that, a hundred percent.”

“How the ball comes out of his hand, he’s got it,” Collins said. “It’s got a good whip to it, good snap to his arm. All the physical tools are there.”

This praise was coming from a 17-year NFL veteran who was selected No. 5 in the 1995 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers.

Three days after Allar went to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round, Collins posted on his X account in response to Penn State’s post on Allar being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers: “I won’t be surprised if he has a 10+ year NFL career.”
