The past two weeks haven’t been easy for anyone associated with Penn State football.
There’s been bad news both with the current team (losses to Oregon and UCLA) and on the recruiting front (Class of 2027 four-star Khalil Taylor de-committing).
But another Class of 2027 commit is still confident in James Franklin and this coaching staff, and opened up in a long direct message response to Nittany Sports Now.
“Obviously the last two losses haven’t been what anyone wanted to see as a fan, as a recruit or I’m sure for their coaches or players even,” Layton von Brandt wrote to NSN.
”I was at the White Out game it came down to the last play in double OT. But as someone who has a relationship with the coaches there I feel bad for them and the players cause I have seen how hard they work and how much they wanted to win and put into winning those games since back in spring but sometimes that’s just the way football goes and fans don’t always get that.”
Von Brandt is a four-star offensive tackle commit from Appoquinimink High School in Middletown, Delaware, and he’s expecting his future school to turn it around.
“As far as the state of the program right now I trust Coach Franklin & Coach (Phil Trautwein) to get it turned around this season,” he wrote. “I committed to Penn State because of them and the relationship we built with each other . I have total faith in Coach Franklin’s vision and where he will take the program into the future. As long as Coach Franklin & Coach Trautwein are there I have ZERO worries about Penn State continuing to be a top program.”
Von Brandt pointed to Penn State’s successful track record of putting players in the NFL.
“They put guys in the league consistently,” he said, “they are in the conversation every year for the playoffs & natty ,their players love them like family & the support the program has from the school is as good as it gets. A couple losses wont change my opinion of all those things. Coach Franklin and the program do things the right way. They will get it turned around.”
