Penn State wrestling star Mitchell Mesenbrink now knows who heโll be facing at Final X, and itโs somebody heโs quite familiar with.
For the third time since March 2024, Mesenbrink will be taking on David Carr.
This is becoming quite the friendly rivalry.
Last spring, Carr beat Mesenbrink 9-8 in an all-time classic national championship match at 165 pounds.
Mesenbrink got better from the loss, rolling to a national title this past season. For anybody who, for whatever reason, wasnโt sure how far Mesenbrink had come, he proved it in freestyle.
Late last month, Mesenbrink and Carr met again, and this time, Mesenbrink not only one, but tech-falled the Iowa State legend. The win meant that Mesenbrink punched his ticket to Final X in June, and Carr had to qualify through the World Team Trials in the middle of May.
Carr did just that, beating Jarrett Jacques 2-0 to qualify for Final X at 74 KG.
The two will now wrestle in a best-of-three series to determine who makes the World Team at that weight.
Final X is scheduled for June 14 in Newark, New Jersey.
