On Thursday, Penn State head coach Mike Rhoades held a press conference on Zoom to discuss Wednesday’s blowout loss to No. 13 Illinois.
“When you have moments like this during the season, right,” Rhoades said, “in stretches, whatever you want to call it, you know, you got to rely and you got to fall back on your training and your habits and the trust of what we have.
And I thought both games, even though we played hard, there were times where that’s not what we do. And sometimes even last night when the score gets out of hand, ‘I’m going to go do this. I got to do this.’ And that makes it even harder and harder. And those are the lessons you learn brutally the hard way …”
Penn State held an early 11-5 lead before being outscored 86-41 the rest of the game. The Nittany Lions shot 2-of-12 from 3-point range and 18-of-53 on 2-pointers. Ace Baldwin Jr. left the game with a back injury with 4:42 left in the first half and would not return.
