No. 1 Player in West Virginia, Daniel Jennings, Picks Penn State Football

A month before Penn State football plays West Virginia in Morgantown, PSU picked up a victory over WVU in the recruiting world.

Wednesday evening, four-star, 6-foot-2, 220 pound defensive end Daniel Jennings, who was choosing between Penn State and West Virginia, announced that he has picked the Nittany Lions.

Jennings is in the midst of a standout career at West Virginia’s Princeton High School.

West Virginia was the first school to offer him, doing so this past January. Jennings also picked up offers from Illinois and UNLV. But PSU was the favorite going into Jennings’ announcement, with both of 247Sports’ “crystal ball” projections having him picking PSU.

Penn State offered him in late March when he was on campus during the spring season. Since then, he’s returned to PSU for the Blue-White Game in April, a camp in early June and, most recently, this past weekend for the school’s annual Lasch Basch, which is the biggest recruiting weekend of the summer.

Jennings is ranked as the 227th best player in the country by 247Sports, the 22nd best edge rusher and the top player in West Virginia. On3’s industry rankings also have him at four stars and among the top 250 players in the country.

In an interview with 247s Brian Dohn, Jennings explained what appealed to him about Penn State, as well as what Penn State likes about him.

“I like the facilities, the coaches and how they treat me when I come there. “I am really an athlete and I feel like I can cover and rush the quarterback.”

This continues a hot streak for Penn State’s Class of 2026. Within hours this past Saturday, PSU received commitments from Jahsiear Rogers (Middletown, Delaware) and four-star OL Kevin Brown (Harrisburg). The 2026 Class now has five total commits, with four-star RB Messiah Mickens (Harrisburg) and four-star QB Troy Huhn (San Marcos, California) also in the fold.
