WATCH: PSU HC James Franklin has Fun Exchange With NSN Reporter About Thanksgiving Foods

Photo by Penn State Athletics: James Franklin

NSN’s Brandon Walker asked his first question to Penn State coach James Franklin after Saturday’s Blue-White Game.

Although it’s the middle of April, the coach and the reporter discussed Thanksgiving meals.

For context, the Tuesday before last Thanksgiving, Franklin asked every Penn State reporter who asked him a question in Beaver Stadium’s media room a Thanksgiving food-related question (i.e., Turkey or Ham?)

As Walker started his question, Franklin asked him to introduce himself and name his outlet.

Walker obliged.

That was the start of what became an entertaining exchange. Here’s the transcription.

JF: Brandon, welcome to Happy Valley.

BW: Thank you, sir. Alright, the way you structured the team…

JF: What’s you’re favorite Thanksgiving meal? laughter in the media room. Are you a turkey, are you a ham guy?

BW: Turkey

JF: Turkey?

BW: Turkey

JF: What’s your sides?

BW: Mashed potatoes and green beans.

JF: Mashed potatoes and green beans?

BW: Yes.

JF: Interesting. Ok, this was the real topic. Cranberry Sauce. Fresh, or out of the can?

BW: Always fresh. Always fresh.

JF: Who makes it? Mom, aunt or grandma? Or wife?

BW: I wish I was married. laughter in the room

JF: Ok, sorry. The whole idea is to distract you from your actual question.

In other Blue-White news, the Blue Team beat the White Team, 10-0. QB Drew Allar hit classmate Omari Evans for the game’s only touchdown. Franklin also named three of Penn State’s captains; Keaton Ellis (defense), Olu Fashanu (offense) and Dom DeLuca (special teams). Franklin called the day “phenomenal” and said the day capped off a “great spring.”

Here’s the whole Thanksgiving exchange, as recorded by Nittany Sports Now.
