On Thursday, On3 released their latest rankings from the 2023 recruiting cycle and Penn State landed two of the top 10 tight ends in the Class of 2023 on signing day.
Four-star tight ends Andrew Rappleyea from Milton High School in Milton, Massachusetts, finished as the second-ranked tight end in the 2023 recruiting cycle, while Joey Schlaffer from Exeter Township in Reading, Pennsylvania, finished as the ninth-ranked tight end nationally.
Rappleyea (6-foot-4, 230 pounds) committed to Penn State on April 6, after flipping from Michigan. He is the number two player in Massachusetts and the No. 40 player in the On3 Consensus rankings.
Rappleyea is a modern-day tight end capable of playing in line as well as splitting out wide and playing in the slot. He is an excellent route runner and has very sure hands. He is an excellent run blocker at the high school level and can play tight end role. He must develop his core strength as he grows into his football body once he gets done playing high school basketball which will happen in the summer going into fall camp.
Schlaffer (6-foot-5, 215 pounds) is the number four player in Pennsylvania and the No. 158 player nationally, according to On3 Consensus rankings.
Schlaffer, who played tight end and quarterback at Exeter, caught 40 passes for 902 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has the ideal speed for the tight end position, and he is very good with the ball in his hands for a tight end and is willing to go down the middle to make tough catches.
Schlaffer is already enrolled at Penn State.
