‘Man, I Love Being in Happy Valley’: Jacob Oden Talks Penn State Recruitment With NSN

Jacob Oden, one of the top junior defensive backs in the country, has upcoming plans to announce his college decision, and Penn State is in the running.

Oden, a four-star safety from the Class of 2024,  plans on announcing his college decision this coming Thursday at 6. Oden will be choosing between Penn State, Iowa, Michigan State, Michigan and Tennessee.

Oden (6-foot-1, 187-pounds) is from Harper Woods High School in Michigan and is rated by Rivals.com as the No. 5 junior in Michigan and one of the top 100 overall prospects in the Class of 2024.

Aside from his five finalists, Oden also received offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Cincinnati, Colorado, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Pitt, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Oden told Nittany Sports Now via DM that he loves being at Penn State.

“They have one of the best atmospheres that I’ve been in,” Oden said.

Oden said he’s built bonds with head coach James Franklin, safeties coach Anthony Poindexter and cornerbacks coach Terry Smith.

”Those guys are great guys,” he said. “I would say that my primary recruiter has been Coach Poindexter, but I also talk to Coach Franklin a lot. I have a great relationship with all of those guys. They are recruiting me as an athlete so I could play any position as a defensive back.”

National Signing Day for the Class of 2024 is still eleven months away, but Oden feels that now is the “right time” to shut down his recruitment.

“I feel like I’m ready to finally decide where I’m going to be calling home,” Oden said.

Jacob Oden has made three unofficial visits to Penn State, the most recent one taking place in October for the Minnesota game. That game was Penn State annual White Out, and the team won, 45-17.
