Penn State is trending for one of South Carolina’s top athletes.
According to 247Sports national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn, the Nittany Lions are picking up momentum for four-star Woodruff High School running back Aiden Gibson, a 2027 prospect from Woodruff, South Carolina.
Gibson is ranked as the No. 8 overall player in South Carolina in the 247Sports Composite.
The 6-foot-2, 203-pound running back had a productive 2025 season, rushing 205 times for 1,611 yards, an average of 7.9 yards per carry, and 21 touchdowns. He also showed his value as a receiver, catching 24 passes for 387 yards, an average of 16.1 yards per reception, and four touchdowns.
Gibson brings an intriguing blend of size, power and versatility to the position. He is a bigger back with strong contact balance, lateral quickness and natural receiving ability. His skill set also allows him to line up in the slot, run routes and make plays in the screen game.
As a runner, Gibson shows good vision and body control when identifying lanes. Once he sees the hole, he is decisive and powerful through contact. Although he can run naturally upright at times, he has the strength and balance to lower his pads and finish runs effectively.
Gibson came away impressed by his first visit to Penn State, saying that “everything stood out.” Shortly after, he locked in an official visit to Happy Valley for June 12-14.
While the Crystal Ball currently favors Penn State, Gibson still has several official visits scheduled. He is set to visit Rutgers on May 29, South Carolina on June 5 and Virginia Tech on June 19.
