Penn State Flips Virginia Record Holder

Penn State Football earned the commitment of three-star receiver Ben Whitver, a 6-foot-2, 190 pound target out of Powhatan, Va., on Saturday, Dec. 27. Whitver broke the news to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals, and later confirmed the report via retweet.

Whitver holds the Virginia state record for career receiving yards. He initially committed to JMU, but the Dukes released him from the National Letter of Intent he signed after former head coach Bob Chesney departed for UCLA.

His addition leaves the Nittany Lions with ten commitments in the class of 2026. Penn State wide receivers coach Marques Hagans, one of a series of assistants to remain in Happy Valley following the beginning of the Matt Campbell era, initially offered Whitver in May 2024.

A Virginia native, Hagans played for the Cavaliers from 2002 to 2005, and his connection to the Old Dominion could help Penn State’s recruiting efforts in the DMV.
