University Park— Penn State and its fans were hoping last Saturday’s loss to UCLA would be rock bottom.

Well, it can always get worse.

Penn State faced another supposedly inferior opponent in Northwestern, and once again, laid an egg.

To make matters worse, QB Drew Allar is out for the season, getting hurt on what ended up being Penn State’s second to last play.

Here is what the people of Twitter had to say about the latest Penn State meltdown.

Can't blame Penn State. They had to travel a long way for this NW game.

Penn State stinks

If Grant Haley doesn’t scoop and score against Ohio State in 2016, how much longer does James Franklin last after that? Not much longer. Most consequential play in post-Paterno Penn State history. And not in a good way.

James Franklin: "I take full responsibility for what’s happened tonight. I take full responsibility for what’s happened this season, and I’m committed to the guys in that locker room."

To Drew

Thank you for giving your all to Penn State, I hope whatever is next for you that you ball out and play to your unlimited potential

The 2025 Penn State football team will be remembered as one of the most overrated of all-time.

Fire James Franklin tonight?
(Pat Kraft can't afford to not fire him right?) @PSU_Strong use your reach to see how overwhelming it really is🫡

Fire Franklin
Come on

Enough of the crap

— Noah Bergren (@NbergWX) October 11, 2025

Franklin has to go. The dude has lost the fan base, and most likely the confidence of the team.

— A-Aron Rife (@Rif_Raf15) October 11, 2025

Possibly the last time looking at this field with James Franklin as the coach. I don’t want to leave. What a strange, conflicting, eerie feeling. pic.twitter.com/aMjbiTXtgd
