James Franklin Gets Into it With Officials After Nevada Win

James Franklin argues a call with officials during the first half.

University Park— Penn State coach James Franklin wasn’t happy with the officials following the team’s 46-11 win over Nevada at Beaver Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Although Franklin was overall pleased with how things went, nothing is ever perfect.

Penn State Coach James Franklin ‘Pleased’ With Nevada Performance

At the end of the game, Penn State got called for a delay of game penalty that Franklin frankly didn’t understand.

Mark Brennan of Lions247 captured Franklin’s reaction.

“You’re full of shit!” he yelled.

Franklin then talked with Ethan Grunkemeyer, who was the QB at the time, and whatever was said couldn’t be heard from the video.

The coach then ran over to the official, and had some more things to say.

The words are hard to make out on the film, but Franklin’s mood wasn’t, and he explained more of the situation in his opening press conference statement.

JAMES EXPLAINS

James Franklin didn't have much to complain about after Penn State beat Nevada Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025 at Beaver Stadium

“Obviously, we did not win the penalty battle,” Franklin said. “I was not happy with the last one. The official is in the huddle holding us, turns to the umpire, says, pump the clock. He doesn’t do it. Then throws a flag on us. Then I go and address it, and the same thing he’s behind him going. ‘I tried to tell him.’ So, I wasn’t happy about that.”

PLAYING UNTIL THE WHISTLE

Franklin coaches every minute like it was the first, and this isn’t the first example of him being particularly animated at the end of a blowout win.

At the end of the team’s 56-0 demolition over Georgia State in 2017, he called timeout in what many saw as an attempt to ice Georgia State’s kicker.

Franklin said it was merely to correct his own special teams unit, but in any case, this showed that Franklin doesn’t slow down when fans may have checked out.

Penn State will likely be on the right end of another blowout next Saturday at Beaver Stadium against Florida International. Kickoff is scheduled for noon on the Big Ten Network.
