One of Penn State basketball’s first opponents of the year wasn’t in Division I a season ago. Now, the Nittany Lions will try to give them a rude welcome.

On Thursday, New Haven announced it will host Penn State on November 8 at The Hazell Center.

New Haven joined the Northeast Conference on May 6 and is in the process of transitioning from DII to DI, beginning with the 2025-26 athletic season. The Chargers will earn full DI membership in 2028-29.

Located in south-central Connecticut, New Haven finished 12-17 last season and lost in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.

Penn State finished the 2024-25 season 16-15 and missed the Big Ten Tournament. The Nittany Lions went 6-14 in Big Ten play and 3-8 on the road.

Mike Rhoades enters his third year at Penn State with a 32-32 record. PSU will have to replace guard Ace Baldwin (graduation) and forward Yanic Konan Niederhauser (NBA Draft) to take a step up in the conference and take a significant step in the right direction to contend in one of the best basketball conferences in the country.
