Penn State All 105: Anthony Ivoy Provides Veteran Presence

Penn State Nittany Lions wide receiver Anthony Ivey (12) November 12, 2022 David Hague/NSN

Anthony Ivey has seen a lot in his time at Penn State.

When he arrived on campus, the program was coming off a mediocre two year stretch in which it went a combined 11-11.

Fast forward three years and Penn State is once again one of the nationโ€™s top programs.

Unfortunately for Ivey, his role hasnโ€™t changed much over three seasons. In fact, it took him until Week 3 of Year 3 to get his first college catch, and he hasnโ€™t had had another since.

But sometimes, stars emerge out of nowhere.

Will that be the case for Ivey in Year 4?

Height: 5-foot-11

Weight: 191 pounds

Hometown: Lancaster, Pennsylvania

Before Penn State: Ivey came to Penn State after four seasons, four all-state honors and three district championships at Manheim Township High School.

As a senior, Ivey caught 49 passes for 654 yards and scored nine total touchdowns. That year, he accounted for 875 all-purpose yards. He also eclipsed 500 yards receiving in his sophomore and junior seasons.

Ivey made a big impact on special teams at Manheim Township. He set the school record for most kickoff return yards.

His performance in 2021 allowed him to compete in the Polynesian Bowl.ย 247Sports,ย ESPNย andย Rivalsย all listed Ivey as a four-star recruit, and he committed to Penn State in October 2020, choosing Penn State over Auburn, Michigan State, Rutgers, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

2022:ย Ivey redshirted his freshman season.

2023 : Ivey only played in one game.

2024:ย Ivey played in 11 times as many games, being used primarily on special teams.

Where he stands:ย With Penn State adding three starters to its receivers room and returning veterans such as Liam Clifford and Kaden Saunders, itโ€™s hard to see Ivey making much of a splash. But stranger things have happened.

A quote by Ivey:ย

A quote by Ivey:ย โ€œThe first year was great. Iโ€™m putting the trust into the coaches, into the staff, trusting that theyโ€™ll develop me in all the right ways.โ€ โ€” Ivey at Penn Stateโ€™s second-year player media availability in February 2023.

A quote about Ivey:ย โ€œHeโ€™s made a bunch of big plays. He has earned out coachesโ€™ respect. I know heโ€™s earned the defenseโ€™s respect being over there on the D squad. I think he has a bright future.โ€ โ€” James Franklin on Ivey.
