Penn State coach James Franklin doesnโ€™t want to have to cut players but knows that he might, and has a plan if that does happen.

Depending on the results of the House vs. NCAA case, Penn State could have to cut nine players.

Currently, the roster is at 114.

Part of the settlement could make it so that each team has 105 roster spots. If this goes through, Penn State will have to cut nine players.

Franklin went into detail about this after Saturdayโ€™s Blue-White Game.

Franklin said that the program does indeed have a plan it has to cut players.

โ€œYes, we have,โ€ he said. โ€œI mean, I think first of all, if youโ€™re filling the house case ย closely, which I know you are, thereโ€™s light at the end of the tunnel right now.

โ€œIโ€™ve expressed to the team at the end of the fall, when the portal was about to open, about the 105 (limit) and gave everybody an opportunity to go into the transfer portal and do what they need to do. It is my responsibility to educate our players what the process is and then how weโ€™re going to handle it. At Penn State, youโ€™re allowed to carry a full roster right up to your first game, so that is our plan to keep everybody on the team as long as we possibly can.โ€

Who will James Franklin hire as Penn Stateโ€™s DC?

Franklin, who played QB at East Stroudsburg before getting into coaching, hates the thought of this coming to fruition.

โ€œI donโ€™t like it at all,โ€ he said. โ€œAs you guys know, Iโ€™m a DII football player. I went to college on a $1,500 scholarship and a full Pell Grant.โ€

Franklin is going to do what he can to help Penn State get the best possible outcome.

โ€œI know what the game of football and college athletics in general in terms of helping build well-rounded individuals, so Iโ€™m fighting for what I believe is the best for our program,โ€ he said. โ€œThatโ€™s why I wasnโ€™t going to cut to the 105 earlier than I had to.
