Penn State coach James Franklin doesnโt want to have to cut players but knows that he might, and has a plan if that does happen.
Depending on the results of the House vs. NCAA case, Penn State could have to cut nine players.
Currently, the roster is at 114.
Part of the settlement could make it so that each team has 105 roster spots. If this goes through, Penn State will have to cut nine players.
Franklin went into detail about this after Saturdayโs Blue-White Game.
WHAT FRANKLIN SAID

Franklin said that the program does indeed have a plan it has to cut players.
โYes, we have,โ he said. โI mean, I think first of all, if youโre filling the house case ย closely, which I know you are, thereโs light at the end of the tunnel right now.
โIโve expressed to the team at the end of the fall, when the portal was about to open, about the 105 (limit) and gave everybody an opportunity to go into the transfer portal and do what they need to do. It is my responsibility to educate our players what the process is and then how weโre going to handle it. At Penn State, youโre allowed to carry a full roster right up to your first game, so that is our plan to keep everybody on the team as long as we possibly can.โ
FRANKLIN= NOT A FAN

Franklin, who played QB at East Stroudsburg before getting into coaching, hates the thought of this coming to fruition.
โI donโt like it at all,โ he said. โAs you guys know, Iโm a DII football player. I went to college on a $1,500 scholarship and a full Pell Grant.โ
Franklin is going to do what he can to help Penn State get the best possible outcome.
โI know what the game of football and college athletics in general in terms of helping build well-rounded individuals, so Iโm fighting for what I believe is the best for our program,โ he said. โThatโs why I wasnโt going to cut to the 105 earlier than I had to.
