โ€˜I Need Apologiesโ€™: Former Penn State WR Takes to Social Media After Loss

KeAndre Lambert-Smith was distraught after Penn Stateโ€™s Peach Bowl loss to Ole Miss this December, which ended up being his last game at PSU

Although he didnโ€™t mention any names, it seems pretty clear that a former Penn State receiverโ€™s post was a reaction to the teamโ€™s Orange Bowl loss to Notre Dame.

Penn State Drops Orange Bowl to Notre Dame in Heartbreaking Fashion

โ€œI need apologies,โ€ KeAndre Lambert-Smith posted to X (formerly Twitter) Friday morning, hours after Penn Stateโ€™s season ended.

For many Penn State fans, losing Lambert-Smith to the transfer portal was addition by subtraction.

Itโ€™s hard to say how Lambert-Smith would have done at Penn State as opposed to Auburnโ€” where he ended 2024 with almost 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns on 50 catches. But itโ€™s hard to imagine things would be any worse.

ZERO CATCHES

Penn State didnโ€™t get a single reception from its receivers in the Orange Bowl loss to Notre Dame Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025 in Miami.

WR Trey Wallace has a pass broken up

Penn State didnโ€™t get a single reception from its receiving corps Thursday. Not one. Each of QB Drew Allarโ€™s 12 completions were to either a tight end or a running back. Considering that and considering what Lambert-Smith did at Auburn, itโ€™s hard to say things would have been worse had Lambert-Smith stayed. Lambert-Smith was Penn Stateโ€™s leading receiver in 2023, ending the year with 673 yards and four touchdowns on 53 receptions. PSUโ€™s leading receiver this season, Lambert-Smithโ€™s former teammate Harrison Wallace III, had 720 yards and four touchdowns on 46 receptions. The No. 1 receiver behind Wallace, Omari Evans, had 415 yards and five touchdowns on 21 receptions. So itโ€™s hard to argue Lambert-Smith wouldnโ€™t have been, at worst, Penn Stateโ€™s No. 2 option.

DEJA VU

KeAndre Lambert Smith is one of the top statistical receivers in the SEC.

Keandre Lambert-Smith celebrates his fourth quarter game winning touchdown in the final two minutes.

Last season, Penn State lost its last game of the year as well, albeit on a much smaller stage in the Peach Bowl. Penn Stateโ€™s receivers didnโ€™t have a reception in that game until the fourth quarter and Lambert-Smith didnโ€™t have any catches all day. Hours after the loss, he took to social media to respond to critics.

Penn State has two receivers coming in from the transfer portal with Kyron Hudson (USC) and Devonte Ross (Troy). Weโ€™ll see if it adds more during the spring window.
