Cael Sanderson and Penn State wrestling know all about winning national titles, and while Penn State volleyball was fighting for one, the wrestling team cheered them on.
Between rounds at the Journeymen Duals in Nashville Sunday, Sanderson and the squad watched intently as Katie Schumacher-Cawley and Penn State volleyball battled Louisville with the national championship at stake.
Watching on somebody’s iPad (whose iPad is unconfirmed), Sanderson showed the same emotion he does when he’s coaching in a dual meet— hardly any at all. While some of his wrestlers were providing commentary, Sanderson sat in the back, eating an apple.
Others were more emotional.
“We have a chance to bring a national title here,” one wrestler said. “This ain’t no game.”
Volleyball ended up delivering, beating Louisville on its home court to win three sets to one. With eight national titles, Penn State volleyball is now one shy of Stanford for the most in the sport.
Penn State wrestling will be back in action Jan. 10 against Michigan State on a Friday night at Rec Hall. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 8.
