Penn State: Star Defender’s Injury Creates Opportunity For True Freshman

Fans got a glimpse at the future of the defensive line position with the presence of defensive end Max Granville on the field.

Granville took the field for the Nittany Lions after Abdul Carter left the game with an injury to his left shoulder in the second quarter.

The extent of Carter’s injury is not yet known, but he was seen on the sideline in visible pain as he was being attended to by the training staff.

James Franklin and the coaching staff’s belief in Granville has been sky high for the freshman from Sugar Land, Tex. since he arrived on campus. He came to University Park after notching 12 sacks and three forced fumbles as a senior in high school.

Granville has played in four games this season, with three counting against his redshirt. Granville played three snaps in Penn State’s 38-10 win over SMU Saturday, Dec. 21.

With Carter unable to go, Granville will be thrown right into the fire and is expected to have a bigger role now in the biggest game of the season for the Nittany Lions.
