Penn State-SMU: Visitors Will Get ‘Hype Video’ at Beaver Stadium

Penn State fans are pumped up for the College Football Playoff.

The operating procedures for Saturday’s College Football Playoff Game between Penn State and SMU have been revealed, and it will feature a pregame hype video for SMU.

Because this game belongs to the CFP, both teams will get their typical introduction videos before the game.

This will certainly be awkward for the hometown fans, and, to an extent, awkward for SMU, too.

Big Ten foes such as Ohio State and Michigan would never get pregame introduction videos at any venue other than Ohio Stadium or Michigan Stadium or vice versa. SMU would never get such a video at a place like Clemson or Florida State. But the College Football Playoff is different.

OTHER THAN THAT

There’s nothing like the Penn State White Out

Besides the hype video, everything else will pretty much run as normal, with a few small differences.

Per the Playoff:

  • “Penn State’s team entrance will be accompanied by the Penn State intro video and 360-degree fireworks
  • “All in-stadium music and sound effects will be controlled by Penn State.”
  • “All normal fan engagements & Beaver Stadium traditions will remain the same from the time parking lots open through the final whistle.”

Here are the minor differences, per the Playoff:

  • “No sponsorship advertisements are permitted to run on the video boards or ribbon boards at any point.”
  • “Select College Football Playoff videos are required to run on the video boards.”
  • “The SMU band will be seated in the north upper deck & will only play during halftime.”

HOW’S THE WEATHER?

Penn State coach James Franklin has plenty of reason to smile right now.

As of now, it’s supposed to be between 24 and 25 degrees and sunny during game time. There’s a 20% chance of snow starting at 5 p.m., but God willing, the game will be over by then.

Penn State-SMU is scheduled to kick off at noon on TNT/HBO Max.
