Ace Baldwin Jr. had set a new career-high assist total with 16 as Penn State defeated Coppin State 99-51.
Baldwin’s 16 assists were a Penn State single-game record and gave him 714 career assists.
Baldwin led the way for Penn State with his 11-point, 16-assist double-double. Yanic Konan Niederhauser had 14 points followed by Puff Johnson (12), Nick Kern Jr. (12), Dominick Stewart (10), D’Marco Dunn’s (10) combined 44 points.
Peter Oduro was the leading scorer for Coppin State with 15 points.
Overall, Penn State shot 57 percent from the field and 32 percent from 3. Coppin State was held to 35 percent shooting and forced into 18 turnovers.
The first possession wasnโt clean for Penn State, but Baldwin bailed the team out with a side step 3 to beat the shot clock.
That shot represented how the opening 10 minutes of the game was for PSU, as it was shooting ย 70 percent and had a 21-point lead by the under-12 media timeout. Penn State held Coppin State scoreless for over six minutes and extended its lead to 25 before the midpoint of the half.
The Nittany Lions took a 52-21 lead into halftime, shooting 58 percent from the field.
By the under-12 media timeout in the second half, Penn State extended its lead to 41 and reached 70 points.
Penn State’s next game will be against Drexel on Saturday, Dec. 21 at the Wells Fargo Center.
