We knew White Out Weekend would be a big recruiting opportunity for Penn State, and within 30 hours, the team has already landed two commitments.

Before Penn State blew out Washington 35-6, it got one from Layton Von Brandt, the top-ranked Class of 2027 player from Delaware.

Sunday night, Penn State added to its Class of 2025 with Chaz Coleman, a four-star ATH from Warren G Harding High School in Ohio.

Coleman is a 6-foot-5, 205-pounder who Penn State got in on late in his recruitment. PSU offered Coleman in September. His next visit was his official visit, which he took during White Out weekend.

THE SCOUTING REPORT

Coleman is also a basketball star. He averaged 15.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.4 steals as a junior, per MaxPreps.

Coleman’s head football coach, Matt Richardson, pointed out Coleman’s basketball ability to 247Sports.

“Well I just tell people to watch his basketball highlights and they’ll understand,” he said. I told people in the spring you don’t have to see him play football to give him a football scholarship, just watch that [basketball clip]. He can do it all on the field. If he had been training as a quarterback since the 6th grade like others, he would be getting recruited as a quarterback. A lot of schools see him as an athletic tight end who can do different things as well as a wildcat quarterback. I see him as an EDGE. I think he’s an EDGE. That’s my opinion and people who make more money than me like him as a tight end, but athletically, he can do anything.”

WHO PENN STATE BEAT OUT

Coleman also had offers from schools such as Kentucky, Florida State, Illinois, Michigan State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Purdue, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Penn State now has 26 commits in its 2025 class.
