In recruiting news, Penn State football is among the schools that “stand out” to a four-star safety who just de-committed from another Big Ten school.
Late Wednesday morning, Byron Baldwin, a 6-foot-1.5, 190-pounder from Baltimore’s St. Frances Academy, announced that he had de-committed from Indiana University.
He then told Hayes Fawcett, a recruiting expert for On3Sports that Indiana is still in the mix but so are Colorado, Missouri, UCLA and Penn State.

Colorado recently flipped Antonio Branch Jr., a three-star safety who had been committed to Penn State since June. Missouri is currently coming off an 11-2 season than ended with an Orange Bowl win and has started 2024 4-0 and ranked No. 9. UCLA is off to a rocky start in the DeShaun Foster era, being 1-3 with all three losses coming by three scores or more. UCLA is also Penn State’s opponent this Saturday at Beaver Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for noon on Fox.
Penn State offered Baldwin Sept. 23., three days after he took an official visit to Colorado.
In an evaluation, Hudson Standish of 247Sports wrote that Baldwin “has plenty of fans behind the scenes” at 247.
“Byron Baldwin has plenty of fans behind the scenes at 247Sports and looked the part throughout his individual workout and 1-on-1 session on Sunday earning defensive back MVP honors from the UA Camp staff,” 247Sports Standish wrote after watching Baldwin perform at Under Armour Next Camp in Baltimore this past May. “Baldwin did not look out of place working at corner, which speaks to his versatility as a coverage defender considering the 6-foot-0.5 athlete primarily operates from depth at the prep level.”
The only crystal ball projection 247Sports has so far predicts Baldwin to go to Colorado. This was placed by Adam Musterteiger of Colorado Insider.
