In recruiting news, Penn State is the new favorite to get a five-star prospect that’s currently committed to Oregon.

Tuesday morning, Chad Simmons of On3Sports projected that Brandon Finney, a five-star cornerback from the McDonough School in Owings Mills, Maryland, would flip his commitment from Oregon to Penn State.

Finney, who’s listed at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, has been committed to Oregon since late June, and many felt that Penn State would be his initial choice.

Penn State offered Finney last December, and since then, he’s visited campus three times, twice for unofficial visits and once for an official in early June.

HOW HE FEELS ABOUT PENN STATE

Finney was a big fan of his official visit to Penn State over the summer and talked about it with On3Sports.

“Well, first off, it was a great visit,” Finney said. “I’ve been there a couple of times this winter and spring. A big part of my expectations was seeing how the players interacted with each other. Beforehand I already knew how my relationships were with the coaches, and they’re great. So on the OV, I got to spend some time with the players, spend some time with a couple of the other McDonogh guys and kind of talk to the other recruits and see like why they were considering Penn State.

“So overall, the visit was a 10 out of 10.”

THE MCDONOUGH PIPELINE

Penn State defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton is among several PSU players who played at the McDonough School.

Dani Dennis-Sutton comes up with a first quarter sack of Michigan’s JJ McCarthy.

Penn State fans who don’t follow recruiting might not recognize the name “McDonough School,” but they’ll recognize the names Dani Dennis-Sutton, P.J. Mustipher, Curtis Jacobs, Dvon J-Thomas and Mason Robinson. All of those guys played at McDonough.

We’ll find out soon enough if Finney flips to Penn State. Signing Day is scheduled for Dec. 4, 2024. He most recently visited Penn State Oct. 5 for its win over UCLA.
