Penn State TE Tyler Warren’s four-yard touchdown reception late in the second quarter against UCLA looked ordinary on the surface.
But it made history.
With that reception, Warren is now Penn State’s all-time leader in total touchdowns by a tight end with 17, breaking Pat Freiermuth’s record.

Freiermuth, who played at Penn State from 2018-20, is now in his fourth season with the Pittsburgh Steelers and signed a hefty contract extension days before the season opener. This is Warren’s last season of eligibility, so he’ll almost surely be somewhere in the NFL next season.
He’s established himself as one of college football’s best tight ends, and coach James Franklin has repeatedly called him “the most complete tight end in the country.”
“He truly is a weapon in the run game as a blocker, he truly is a weapon on third down in the passing game,” Franklin said after practice in late August.

Click here to add us.“Those are the tight ends, in my opinion, when you talk to defensive coordinators all over the country, they’re the ones that they hate. … The guys like Tyler, there’s not many of them across the country that can do both, and they cause a lot of headaches,” Franklin said.
As of this writing during the Penn State UCLA game, Warren has hauled in 22 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns this season. 14 of his touchdowns have been receiving, and three have been rushing.
Before Penn State, along with being an All-State baseball player and four-time All-Region selection in basketball, Warren captained the football team in three of his four seasons at Atlee High School. He had a successful career at Atlee, three times earning all-region honors and twice making all-state.
Warren played quarterback in high school, which is far different from his current position at Penn State. A duel threat, Warren threw for 1,149 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior and also rushed for 677 yards and 10 scores that season.
ESPN rated Tyler Warren as a four-star recruit and Virginia’s No. 7 Class of 2020 player. Rivals and 247Sports had him as a three-star. He committed to Penn State the day before the Fourth of July in 2019.
