Penn State coach James Franklin opened his weekly presser Monday with some good and bad injury news.
The good news is that Penn State expects to have LB Don DeLuca, RG Sal Wormley and CB Jalen Kimber back.
The bad news is that a Penn State running back is out with a long term injury.
Late in Penn State’s 56-0 win over Kent State more than a week ago, RB Cam Wallace had to be carted off the field. Franklin didn’t give an update on the status of Wallace or DeLuca— who also left the Kent State game with an injury, at either of his media availabilities last week.
Now, it’s confirmed that Wallace will be out a while.
Wallace won Regional Player of the Year this past season for Montgomery High School, rushing for 1,221 yards, 13 touchdowns and averaging 9.6 yards per carry, per MaxPreps.
Although he’s mainly a running back, Wallace has played multiple positions. Offensively, he’s spent time at receiver and quarterback. On defense, he’s played corner and he’s returned kicks on special teams. He returned a kickoff for a touchdown this past season and picked off two passes. Wallace also threw for 1964 yards and made 92 tackles, per MaxPreps. Wallace is a speedster, qualifying for states in the 200- and 100-meter dash.
A three-star recruit, Wallace announced his commitment to Penn State less than 24 hours before signing day.
This season, Wallace appeared in Penn State’s wins over West Virginia and Kent State, rushing for 63 yards on 18 carries (3.5 YPC). With Wallace out, it seems likely that true freshman Quinton Martin (Belle Vernon)  is now Penn State’s No. 3 RB.
