The Iowa Hawkeyes will reportedly be without HC Kirk Ferentz and an assistant for the 2024 season opener.
According to various reports Thursday morning, the legendary Iowa head coach will be suspended for the season opener due to a recruiting violation.
Iowa wide receivers coach Jon Budmayr will also be suspended for the August 31st game against Illinois State. Both are set to return for Iowa’s Week 2 game against in-state rival Iowa State.
247 Sports is reporting that this suspension centers around Iowa’s recruitment of starting quarterback Cade McNamara, who transferred last season to Iowa from Michigan. McNamara ended up missing much of the season due to a knee injury.
Earlier in the year, the Hawkeyes program self-reported a Level 3 rules violation dealing with Alabama offensive tackle Kaydn Proctor. The much talked about lineman originally transferred to Iowa in the off-season before deciding to transfer back to Alabama.
The 69-year-old Ferentz is entering his 26th season as Iowa’s head football coach.
Ferentz is scheduled to meet with the media Thursday afternoon.
