2021: Penn appeared in five games, starting against rival North Carolina.

2022: Penn redshirted his third season, appearing in three games.

High school: Penn played at Carroll High School, helping his team to a 36-6 record and three state playoff appearances, along with earning All-State honors individually as a junior and senior. Penn was a consensus three-star recruit coming out of high school.

2023: Penn didn’t appear in any games but impressed the coaching staff throughout the weeks enough to earn Developmental Squad Offensive Player of the Year honors, which he shared with receiver Ethan Black.
