One of three Penn Staters appearing in this year’s Super Bowl, Ji’Ayir Brown intercepted Chiefs’ star quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the third quarter. Brown’s interception helped the 49ers hold onto their 10-3 lead in the game.
While the 49ers failed to score on the next possession, the rookie safety’s interception ended a historic streak of 217 passes in the postseason without an interception by Mahomes. That streak ends as the third longest in NFL history behind Drew Brees (226) and Tom Brady (237). Mahomes’s streak came after six postseason games without an interception.
Brown and the 49ers are currently looking to hold off Mahomes for the remainder of the game and win the franchise’s record-tying sixth Super Bowl. At the time of this writing, the 49ers lead 10-3 with 11:43 left to go in third quarter.
PICKED! @49ers defense comes out strong to open the half.
