As most expected, No. 1 Purdue took care of Penn State Saturday in West Lafayette, Indiana.
As usual, it was 7-foot-4 National Player of the Year favorite Zach Edey leading the way for Purdue (15-2, 4-2 Big Ten).
Edey put up 30 points and 20 rebounds
Penn State (8-9, 2-4) held its own through the first media timeout, going into it tied at eight. Kanye Clary scored five of Penn State’s first eight points.
But by the U12 timeout, Purdue led 24-12 and it was all Boilers from there.
By the 10-minute mark of the first half, Purdue led 34-12, building a 26-2 run.
Purdue led 56-36 at halftime. Edey had 19 points and 13 rebounds. For Penn State, Clary led the way with 13 points. Penn State didn’t have enough to come back in the second half.
For Penn State, Nick Kern (18 points) and Jemeel Brown (13) contributed off the bench. Clary, a starter, ended with 16.
Penn State is back at home this week. It hosts No. 15 Wisconsin Tuesday at 9 on the Big Ten Network.
