Penn State wrestling has released its 2023 schedule.
Coach Cael Sanderson’s empire has 12 dual meets, seven of which are at home.
Interestingly enough, Penn State’s annual Bryce Jordan Center dual meet will be against Rutgers, not Ohio State, which is also on the home schedule.
Penn State hosted both Michigan and Iowa at the BJC last year, and will wrestle those Big Ten powers away this season. The Ohio State home dual meet will be Friday, Feb. 2, in Rec Hall.
Penn State’s won 10 of the past 12 national championships and is favored to do it again in 2024. As of now, the squad returns both of its individual national champions— Carter Starocci (174-pound weight class) and Aaron Brooks (184), as well as a pair of national runner-ups in Levi Haines (157) and heavyweight Greg Kerkvliet. Penn State also added in the transfer portal, getting Aaron Nagao (Minnesota), Bernie Truax IV (Cal Poly) and Mitchell Mesenbrink (Cal Baptist).
Penn State honored the 2023 national champions at halftime of the football team’s 31-0 White Out drubbing of Iowa. Whether or not any shade was intended at Iowa’s expense is unconfirmed.
This year’s team will wrestle Iowa at Carver Hawkeye Arena Friday, February 9.
