Penn State Outside Top 10 in 1st CFP Rankings of 2023

Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin November 12, 2022 David Hague/NSN

Penn State comes in at No. 11. in the first College Football Playoff Rankings of 2023.

Penn State’s third amongst Big Ten teams, behind No. 1 (yes, no. 1) Ohio State, who beat PSU 20-12 in Columbus Oct. 21, and No. 3 Michigan, who Penn State plays Nov. 11.

Before playing Michigan, Penn State has to get through Maryland.

The Big Ten East foes play in College Park at 3:30 this Saturday on Fox. Maryland is nowhere in the CFP rankings, having lost three straight. Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State are the only Big Ten teams ranked in the top 25. Two-time defending national champion Georgia is No. 2.

Penn State’s never made the College Football Playoff, and this year will be its last chance to do it in the traditional four-team format.
