Bryce Underwood, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound five-star from Ohio’s Belleville High School, will be in Beaver Stadium.
Penn State offered Underwood in late January. He also has offers from schools such as Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Cincinnati, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Florida State, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Ole Miss, Pitt, Rutgers, Texas, Texas A&M, Washington and Wisconsin.
Underwood was Max Preps’ Freshman of the Year in 2021 and its Sophomore of the Year in ‘22. In 247Sports’ Allen Trieu’s player evaluation, published in August 2022, he wrote that Underwood is “ahead of his years physically and looks like he could be a (high school) senior or college player already.”
“Has a strong arm with the ability to make throws to any part of the field,” Trieu wrote. “Throws a good deep ball and can use touch to give his receivers a chance to go make plays on the ball. Did an exceptional job of taking care of the ball as a freshman with 39 touchdowns to just four interceptions. Got rid of the ball quickly and was decisive with the ball for the most part. Very good athlete who honestly could be a high-level recruit on defense if he was not such a great quarterback.”
Penn State will have many recruits on campus this weekend. But the task at hand is Iowa. Iowa will be the first ranked team Penn State’s played this season and thus its biggest test so far. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 on CBS.
